A beautiful vintage wedding dress
Mary F. was very specific on how she wanted the vintage gown her daughter, Sarah, would wear on her wedding day to look. The wedding dress was over 60 years old, and despite being previously cleaned and preserved by another company, it had yellowed and had acquired rust stains. But despite this, the custom-made wedding dress was breathtaking. Made of silk organza with embroidered organza appliques and seed pearls, and lined by acetate, the wedding dress has a classic flair. The veil was just as lovely; It has embroidered edges around the cotton tulle, and a headpiece made of silk flowers that had some damage to them.
How we cleaned the vintage wedding dress
When we received the gown, it had yellow spots and dirt on the hemline. There were brown spots on the front waist area. The veil’s headpiece had yellowed and the tulle looked dingy while still maintaining a good shade of white. We hand cleaned the gown with our whitening process and spot cleaned the veil. We also hand pressed the gown and veil and finished it with the Museum Method preservation. For the veil, we separated the headpiece from the tulle and hand cleaned the tulle. Sarah was able to wear this beautiful gown on her wedding day!
