A Wedding Dress Story
By Melissa M.
When I started dress shopping I thought I wanted something simple and understated. I was thinking a sheath with maybe a little lace or just all satin. I actually picked a sexier sheath style dress originally and immediately had buyer’s remorse. Looking at photos I loved the dress, but I didn’t feel like myself in it and I never had that bridal moment where I knew for sure it was the one.
Luckily, Marina Morrison (in San Francisco) let me come back and try on more dresses and then I decided that I would come back for the Oscar de la Renta trunk show. I did a little research before going in and reviewed dresses on the Oscar de la Renta website. Then I called the bridal boutique and requested a few styles be at the trunk show.
I tried on the Harper and instantly knew it was the one. I loved that it was a classic ball gown style with out being over-the-top. The peony lace detail and the back corset and the train were all so unique.
Overall, I fell in love with the classic and traditional style and the modern lines. When I found the dress for me I was with my mom, my little sister and my mother-in-law. It was really special and helpful to have them all there.
I also felt like the dress went really well with our wedding venue and our theme. We got married at Solace Resort in iconic Calistoga, CA. The accommodations are modern, thoughtfully-appointed and private – providing a resort experience that is unforgettable and unique to Napa.
Our wedding was black tie and all our flowers consisted of a variety of whites including peonies and lots of greenery. My bridesmaids wore a light Champagne color dresses. Our invitations were black and white as well as our signage. We used a marble pattern in our envelopes and signage to tie in the modern feel at the resort.

Melissa’s Wedding Dress Preservation
Melissa’s ccream colored silk and lace Oscar de la Renta wedding dress had a moderately dirty hemline when we received it. There was also debris caught in between the fabric of the hem. We also found a hole in the lining of the hem and one in the lace of the hem. The bodice was mildly dirty and one of the bustle ribbons has been torn out. Her floor length veil with raw edges had some holes caused by the debris that was caught in it.
Fortunately, Melissa had chosen our Heritage Couture™ package which includes repairs. We were able to clean her gown with our very thorough wedding dress cleaning. We also repaired the hole in the hem of the lace and the lining, re-attached the bustle ribbon that had come out and repaired the hole in the veil. We used silk thread to repair the veil for minimal visibility.
After her wedding gown was returned to pristine condition, we preserved it with our Heritage Box™ wedding dress preservation which includes cotton muslin wrap and fill instead of tissue, for the best preservation possible. Melissa and her family will enjoy her beautiful wedding gown for years to come.
