A Wedding Dress Story
By Lauren McTaggart
I am very lucky because my wedding dress belongs to my little sister’s best friend and she is kind enough to lend it to me. It’s an original Oscar de la Renta and she wore it 6 years ago on her wedding and she looked absolutely stunning. She is 3 years younger literally to the day (same birthday) but we’ve always been more or less the same size so when I was young she was always having sleepovers with my sister and borrowing my clothes.
It was sort of funny when I turned around and asked her if I could wear her dress. It had been sitting in a box in her mother’s storage container for 6 years and when I opened up the box I found rust stains on the front of it and immediately began searching online for the most reputable company to clean it.
My fiancee was helping me and he found Heritage online, showed me the reviews, and we decided sending it out to experts would be the best plan. I’m so excited to wear it in Cabo on December 29!
Lauren’s Wedding Dress Preservation
Lauren sent her friend’s Oscar de la Renta silk satin and tulle wedding dress with ruched bodice and ruffled skirt to us for cleaning and restoration before her wedding day.
We found oxidized stains on the gown which gave us the most concern. Fortunately, through carefully cleaning and spotting, we got the majority of the discoloration out.
We also found some seams that had come loose, so we repaired those as well. Once the gown was clean, pressed and steamed… it had life and was vibrant again.
We recommended that Lauren had the gown re-steamed and pressed before her big day. You can see from the photos, that she looks beautiful in her “something borrowed” wedding gown. She was married in December of 2017.
