A Wedding Dress Story
By Abigail Greene
I have been close with my grandmother my whole life. It is my dads mom and we call her ‘Gwag’.
My grandmothers dress spent most of its life inside a trash bag. The only time it was out was when her grandchildren asked to try it on. We played dress up in her wedding gown all the time! I told her when I was about 12 years old that I would wear it down the isle one day.
I recently got engaged this past November and it was right as everyone started moving. My fiancé and I had purchased my fathers house and my dad moved down the street. My grandmother also happened to be moving at the same time. It almost seemed like fate when she had found her wedding dress again and called me to ask if I wanted it.
I was determined to wear her dress and I was so relieved when I found Heritage Garment Preservation.
Abigail’s Wedding Dress Restoration
Abigail’s vintage organza with embroidered floral over satin lining wedding gown was in beautiful condition when we received it, despite having been stored in a trash bag. It did have a tear on from right lower skirt that we repaired, and a small amount of distress at hemline.
A few oxidized stains diminished the gowns beauty but were removed with expert wedding dress restoration.
We also removed the 48 buttons that ran down the back of the gown before processing and replaced them afterward to prevent the buttons from being damaged by the restoration chemicals.
Abigail’s wedding gown turned out beautiful and ready to be worn again.
