I bought this dress in 1987 after trying on dozens of other dresses. I saw the dress in Vanity Fair magazine and hunted down a store that carried it. The store was in Atlanta, Georgia, and I traveled about two hours, from Chattanooga, Tenn., to see it. I immediately fell in love with it and bought it on the spot. The one change was that I had them add three feet on the train. After the ceremony, I had the cleaners put it into a preservation box and did not see the dress again for more than 27 years.
About six months ago, with my 22-year-old daughter home for the weekend, I decided to open the box so she could try it on. It was as beautiful as I remember it, except for some oxidation stains. I sent it to Heritage Garment Preservation after doing quite a bit of research, and they looked like the best company.
I hope that someday one of my daughters will be walking down the aisle in this totally restored and beautiful gown!
